Various home remedies
The first thing that we should cover is what in the world is pink eye or conjunctivitis. Pink eye is a bacterial or viral infection that affects the eyes and is described as very irritating and uncomfortable. Pink eye is very contagious and should be considered very serious. If you think that you are showing signs of pink eye contact your doctor immediately before trying an over the counter medication or even a home remedy for pink eye.
If you go looking for a home remedy for pink eye then you will likely come across the one that says to use a chamomile tea bag to get rid of conjunctivitis. The idea is that you should put a wet chamomile tea bag over your infected eye or eyes for about ten minutes every few hours or so. Chamomile is not hard to find and is a standard type of tea found in most grocery stores. The ingredient chamomile is what is supposed to work so do not get tea bas with anything but that in them to avoid any negative effects. If you do not want to put the tea bag on your eyes then you can make a compress from the tea or even put the tea in eye cups and use that. Eye cups can be found at pretty much any drug store. Make the tea a bit stronger than you would for drinking. If this works for you let us know.
Another home remedy for pink eye along the same lines is using eyebright herb made into a tea and treating the same as the chamomile. Some people like to use boric acid as an eyewash to relieve their pink eye and soothe the eyes but that sound a bit strange to many people so stick to the over the counter or prescription medications if you do not want to go that route.
For those of you that believe in alternative medicine please continue your research on a home remedy for pink eye but for those of you that are not big believers in things that have not been developed by scientist in a lab there are some great over the counter treatments for pink eye and we have a couple laid out on this page for you.
