Vaginal warts are caused by a virus that is called human papillomavirus, HPV. The HPV is usually transmitted person to person by sexual contact. There are lots of types of HPV and all of them do something different.

These vaginal warts tend to appear within months of infection with the virus. The thing about these warts is they can take a lot of forms. They can be single, in a group, raised, flat, small or large. Women will see their vaginal warts on the vulva, the cervix, around the vagina or anus, and even in the vagina. It has even been sited that the warts make their way down the thigh and leg.

These warts are very contagious and spread fast and easily. The most common way they spread is by skin to skin contact which is often done while engaging in various sex acts with an infected partner. It has even been seen, in rare cases that vaginal warts can show up in the mouth or throat.

Diagnosis and treatment

The diagnosis of vaginal warts should be made by a qualified professional. The diagnosis can usually be made just by looking at the site. Women should also be examined by a doctor to make sure that it is not spreading to the cervical area. Vinegar has been used as well to identify the warts that can not be seen by the naked eye as they turn white when exposed to the acid.

If the warts are relatively small the doctor can use freezing, burning or lasers to remove the warts from your body. If they are large then no previously stated wart remover can be used, surgery will be necessary.

Pregnancy

Vaginal warts can not only be uncomfortable for the woman but they can cause issue during a pregnancy. The warts can grow making urination hard and if large enough they can affect the delivery of the baby. In some rare cases the warts have made it into the child and caused life threatening issues.

Vaginal warts are no laughing matter nor are they simple to live with. Before having sex with a person both of you should be checked for STD's and at the very least only have protected sex with a condom. There are no guarantees that the condom will prevent genital warts from spreading but the odds are better than without.
